Mthandazo Ngcobo, the founder of Nelson Ngcobo Holdings Pty Ltd, knew that he would own his business back in varsity days as he was still studying towards completing a diploma in Agriculture Animal Production at Tshwane University of Technology. It was in 2015 that he began his entrepreneurial journey with a couple of failed business attempts prior to this one. In 2017, after observing the rise and dependency of consumers on energy drink consumption, that he began manufacturing his own beverage brand centered around a clean, healthy and functional energy drink that will add and promote good health to consumers as opposed to what the market currently offers. Through research and understanding of potency of the natural plant ingredients have, he began trials of producing a product that would later be called Pondo Energy Drink. As a result of his entrepreneurial aptitude, other product varieties and product ranges were derived from the by-products of plant materials used in the manufacturing of beverages. Hence today Nelson Ngcobo Holdings Pty Ltd, through its subsidiaries manufactures and produces – beverages, essential oils and hydrosols. Teas and herb products in the pipelines.
Except for his desire to own a business and make a fortune for himself, however, Mthandazo started this business with the desire and passion to restore pride in who we are as, South Africans, by promoting our rich plant biodiversity, through using indigenous plants in product development, he was inspired by our Indigenous Knowledge Systems. Secondly, contribute towards unemployment and poverty alleviation especially in rural areas as he was exposed to such conditions as he was growing up.
